Rajinikanth, born Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, has dominated Tamil cinema for more than five decades and 170 films across multiple Indian languages. The Government of India recognised his stature with the Padma Bhushan in 2000, the Padma Vibhushan in 2016 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2019, while the International Film Festival of India added the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award. Wikipedia page views hold at 25 K views a day, a steady pulse for a star whose screen presence still commands the room.

The Times of India reported that director K. S. Ravikumar disclosed why a Padayappa sequel never materialised, while IMDb tracked Jailer 2 opening third at the U.K. and Ireland box office behind a Street Fighter release. NDTV noted the film inching toward the Rs 600 crore worldwide mark by day six and earlier crossing the 400 crore threshold in four days, making it the fifth Indian film to do so in 2026. Bollywood Hungama said the sequel secured a record Rs 160 crore OTT deal, the largest ever for a Tamil title, and Cinema Express shared behind-the-scenes moments from Meghana Raj’s first collaboration with Shivarajkumar on the set.

Hindustan Times captured cricketer Sanju Samson booking an entire theatre for his squad’s Jailer 2 outing, and Odisha TV quoted Shamna Kasim calling a dance sequence with Rajinikanth a dream fulfilled. NDTV added that Allu Arjun described the film’s impact as a coolest hit landing with a bang. Together the headlines show a franchise still expanding its commercial ceiling, a peer group that treats his releases as events, and a screen magnetism that keeps both the industry and the public returning for the next spectacle.
